  • I hate to say this, but that reads a lot like AI slop :-/

mlmonkey · Nov 3, 2026 · comment in “Sleep framework: A new way for LLMs to retain knowledge in continual learning”

  • In other words, mostly videos from channels I have already watched and am very likely to watch more videos from. Sure, there's a fair bit of slop; mostly things like "the unbelievable technology that powers the entire internet" or something where they're just describing asymmetric crypto in layman's terms, and there are periods where it gets more or less prevalent, but the feed is nowhere near unusable on most days.

miki123211 · Nov 1, 2026 · comment in “HackerTube: YouTube built from videos recommended by HN”

  • I think that's why people like Linus Torvalds couldn't give a shit if people use AI or not, as long as it's not slop and suits its purpose. If you've already spent over a decade writing code and savoring the process, maybe you're just getting a little tired of it.

    davesque · Nov 1, 2026 · comment in “Show HN: NES Contra (1987) port (ASM –> C and then C –> WebAssembly)”

  • I don't hate AI preprints, I hate slop grenades, which is what this is.

seanhunter · Oct 30, 2026 · comment in “Keplearn: Extract Equations from Data in Seconds”

  • “A tie wins a district for nobody” I hate this AI slop text

    hbcdbff · Oct 30, 2026 · comment in “elect.horse”

  • Also horrible demonstration of AI do these people even use AI? The part where he asked AI to organise his windows was almost as painful as the part where he was in a generic chase sequence of a Ubisoft slop game and asked whats the best way to catch the assassin.

AuthAuth · Oct 29, 2026 · comment in “The first wired XR glasses powered by Android XR”

  • As soon as I see content that reads like AI slop, I feel like I am wasting my time watching paint dry, and I throw it away.

likoya · Oct 28, 2026 · comment in “Start Doing Graph Theory”

  • Yes, but who will review the mountains of slop to determine whether it is of acceptable quality? The main problem AI introduces is high volume at low quality, often overwhelming the human resource bottlenecks these systems have in place.

    metobehonest · Oct 27, 2026 · comment in “Wikipedia's Cleanup of AI-Generated Content”

  • And yes you can churn slop. And I’m sure many will and many will get stuck with a source base that grows bigger than LLMs can cope with and becomes unmaintainable.

    nemo44x · Oct 26, 2026 · comment in “Anthropic S-1”

  • 123 referrs to it" you get in claudeslop) is very hard to understand but also kind of impossible to be wrong no? If it said "123 refers to ABC" but meant XYZ instead of ABC it's SOL but instead if it says "it" future tokens can ramble themselves out of being wrong thanks to the annoying slop ambiguity.

vikramkr · Oct 25, 2026 · comment in “Why is AI generated language so hard to understand?”

  • > Not only this, a significant number of developers have stopped looking at code This is what I find frustrating about the whole AI/slop debate.

Flere-Imsaho · Oct 24, 2026 · comment in “Is this the new cyber normal?”

  • But denying it's slop is just denial. Nothing on this list looks appealing outside of the "AI Was Allowed From The Start" section; it all looks like annoying literary pandering.

    pessimizer · Oct 22, 2026 · comment in “Award-winning AI literature”

  • In my opinion this isn’t AI slop, whereas AI-generated text that’s manually formatted (also very common) would be AI slop. I hate it when people do this.

airhangerf15 · Oct 22, 2026 · comment in “How to spot AI science slop”

  • We have to start deducting points for this because the more intelligent among us can't take it anymore! We're tired of being exposed to thousands of variants of the same slop...

jongjong · Oct 22, 2026 · comment in “Using LLM for confidence scoring is a bad idea”

  • In the hope that it will inspire some creativity around the use of LLMs as a complimentary force, instead of the slop cannon we have now. I think we're still all stuck in the early stages of adopting a new major tech (AI), where we use it do the exact same stuff we used to.

InsideStick · Oct 21, 2026 · comment in “Blueprints, Not Prompts: Using TLA+ to Guide AI-Written Code”

  • I know there's a lot of GitHub annoyed people out there but after investigating a lot of the instances of outages it does seems like A) They're abusing ElasticSearch in a way is was never meant to be used B) They've seen an unprecedented increase in scale and now have to provide agent slop a lot of free action minutes until they figure out how to separate commercial support from free support C) Who knows how many ot…

kingcauchy · Oct 19, 2026 · comment in “Another day another GitHub incident”

  • If all that matters is the outcome (getting some point in writing), AI does that. I hate slop because it has lost its human touch.

randerson · Oct 19, 2026 · comment in “There's never been a better time to go into math (by: 3blue1brown) [video]”

  • Sigh, painful AI slop that is wrong on so many things and just an ad for crystl.

tjoff · Oct 19, 2026 · comment in “Tmux and Claude Code: Sessions, Send-Keys, and the Ceiling”

  • When they have vast amounts of slop code that no one understands? When you have to sit in with a customer and explain why the product doesn't work and no one knows even how it works never mind how to fix it?

rwmj · Oct 18, 2026 · comment in “How employment is changing at Anthropic”

  • It's not garbage or slop at all. There's a big difference between randos getting agents to hallucinate bug reports on GitHub, vs. when your own internal workflow of LLM-assisted code review is identifying real, legitimate problems in your new features.

crazygringo · Oct 17, 2026 · comment in “Postgres 19 delayed after AI reviewers find more bugs than humans can fix”

  • It's entirely possible that people have just finely tuned AI to perfectly mimic them, but if it passes the Turing test, I guess I have nothing to complain about. Our rules are less about some fundamental opposition to AI and more that it's just annoying to read unedited AI slop.

    ryanbrunner · Oct 15, 2026 · comment in “Why We're Banning AI”

  • Do you really think an LLM that spews out content based on statistical relationships is going to improve when it's been primarily trained on the slop of previous generations of LLMs? Hallucinations and errors will carry forward and spread like cancer.

autoexec · Oct 15, 2026 · comment in “Containment and monitoring failures are to blame for AI hacking reports: experts”

  • The experiment was some mix of failure and success, but what I would never do is say that I wrote it. I may some day blog about the experience and the pros and cons and how I feel about the resulting code, but for right now I feel the Internet is full of enough slop and most people who I respect are thoroughly tired of hearing about LLMs all day (I am too at this point, though I am not saying I find none of it inter…

jchw · Oct 12, 2026 · comment in “I Found a $90k Remote Code Execution Vulnerability in Google”

  • AI research started in the 1950s, and has always led to AI winters as promising areas of research peak. I suspect they are stealing your data when you install the apps, but if these companies are acting legally and not doing that, I can see no way they can avoid model collapse now that the internet is mostly unusable slop.

rico735 · Oct 12, 2026 · comment in “The gap in shared understanding of LLM capability is widening”

  • I just started archiving my repositories; I still run the code, I still tinker in the background, but no more slop reports. Users can continue to fork my code, if they wish, and it is still available, but I'm done fighting submissions.

stevekemp · Oct 12, 2026 · comment in “QGIS bans AI assisted contributions”

  • That, plus AI boosters tend to be incredibly annoying about it, bringing it up at every possible opportunity, changing every technical discussion to be about them, suggesting them for the stupidest use-cases, loudly proclaiming nonsensical productivity boosts (perhaps you feel 5x as productive because you're forcing other people to spend their time fixing your shitty slop code?) etc.

uv-depression · Oct 12, 2026 · comment in “QGIS enacts moratorium on AI contributions”

  • I think this is where it becomes a question of whether it’s an ideological rejection of LLMs or a technical/practical rejection of LLMs. A project that is rejecting contributions where LLMs are used purely because of the “we can’t handle the amount of newbie generated inbound slop” would, in theory at least, have minimal issue where the contribution is, in fact, indistinguishable from human-only contribution. “This …

tonyarkles · Oct 12, 2026 · comment in “QGIS enacts moratorium on AI contributions”

  • I'm starting to find complaints about AI generated content more annoying than the content being complained about.

arethuza · Oct 12, 2026 · comment in “Postgres isn't slow, your storage is”

  • There's only a single major feature I've shipped that was mostly written by an LLM, and that was back in May. All other major tasks I've tried, even somewhat trivial ones, led to unusable code, filled with comment slop and workarounds, and hidden bugs.

olvy0 · Oct 9, 2026 · comment in “Ask HN: Are you a subscribed LLM or a locally deployed open-source model?”

  • The writer must anticipate what a reader will be thinking, and a reader must imagine [0] what the writer wanted to convey. That's part of what makes the modern epidemic of LLM slop so frustrating: The correctly-formed words make us waste effort trying to reconstruct a mind that was never really there.

    Terr_ · Oct 7, 2026 · comment in “Anti-patterns in software blogging”

  • Frankly 'box' feels like classic Claude-slop of 'throw a random synonym in that is less precise/internal jargon'. I wish Claude would fix this (if my guess is correct and the marketing website was generated and is claudeslop).

    ninininino · Oct 7, 2026 · comment in “Berthd”

  • This slop is one of the very frustrating experiences with AI.

prasadvara · Oct 7, 2026 · comment in “Slop on Sale”

  • These comments should be barred from HN, just like "HN is turning into Reddit" is. Which is quite ironic, because the ubiquitous, reductive, low-effort "AI slop" comments make Reddit super annoying.

cromka · Oct 6, 2026 · comment in “Tapo (Rust/Python library) now speaks TP-Link's TPAP protocol”

  • Filters that actually work.") is LLM slop, you could have invested HALF AN HOUR into coming up with something original. Anyway, vibecoding aside, the biggest issue is one I don't see in your FAQ... companies posting jobs just to "gather market data" without ever having the intent of actually filling the position.

    mschuster91 · Oct 6, 2026 · comment in “[dead]”

  • Slop is only an issue is when it's implied to be handwritten. Because then someone is asking me to waste my time reading something they didn't spend time writing.

jere · Oct 6, 2026 · comment in “Samon: Designing a Zen Garden Raking Puzzle”

  • Google also funded and participated in publishing AI slop paper with blatant misinformation about GrapheneOS falsely claiming it has missed security patches it hasn't. The first security patch on their list of hallucinated missed patches was literally reported by us to Android in one of the first Android security bulletins.

grapheneos · Oct 3, 2026 · comment in “GrapheneOS has fixed the Android 17 QPR1 kernel performance regression”

  • Elaborate? it's done nothing but ruin the internet so far. Slop content, search engines are unusable, and now the lowest common denominator simply chatbots a half-baked website and thinks it's good when it isn't.

VCFundedGenYer · Oct 2, 2026 · comment in “Mozilla shutting down Solo AI website creator”

  • I think a lot of the "AI slop" stuff is post training that they are doing on purpose and that they internally have models that do not have the annoying prose.

HDThoreaun · Oct 2, 2026 · comment in “Vote on which of Hacker News' challenges for AI have been met”

  • You seem to be modeling "like" over-simplistically. Someone can like having ChatGPT give a quick answer to a question they don't really care about, but hate how it has been used to pollute their feed with slop, and hate AI's overall effects on society even while appreciating it in some small ways.

palmotea · Oct 1, 2026 · comment in “I am so tired of this bullshit”

  • Tell them that AI is not the future, but a creepy dystopia that this project wants nothing to do with. I know that open source projects have struggled with the onslaught of AI slop.

    techscruggs · Oct 1, 2026 · comment in “[dead]”

  • It's filled with ban-happy moderators, AI slop posts and comments, reposts of comments and posts, memes, low effort posts, and of course astroturfing. Recently it's become basically unusable as there's nothing of importance being posted.

power78 · Sep 29, 2026 · comment in “Does Reddit have an astroturfing problem? What the data suggests”

  • I mentioned apart from misalignment and slop text (inc those useless labels), why would a website visitor who doesn't work in tech and who doesn't follow the latest AI developments care whether something uses a gradient or not?

uxcolumbo · Sep 28, 2026 · comment in “Tells of a Slop UI”

  • - Pull requests, CI/CD, and even GitHub have become process bottlenecks and are increasingly losing meaning in a world of code abundance. - I'm tired of babysitting coding agents, cleaning up slop, and reviewing AI output!

grohan · Sep 28, 2026 · story in “Show HN: Telos – build, run, and evolve software from declarative goals”

  • I then realised that AI spam filter slop lies to me. I hate AI slop.

shevy-java · Sep 27, 2026 · comment in “When did Google get so weird?”

  • Most active topic is actually governance and society impacts around AI - in other words AI opinion slop. This actually became super annoying on HN.

munchausen42 · Sep 27, 2026 · comment in “Show HN: Hacker Atlas - A map of what Hacker News talks about”

  • I tried to do the normal "find a tutorial on the internet thing" first, but it's filled with worthless AI slop, ads and examples that are so trivial they're only clickbait. It's incredibly frustrating.

claytongulick · Sep 26, 2026 · comment in “One Month Without AI”

  • I used to feel this way, but now, I want more people to send me AI slop because I'm tired of human slop.

    gcoakes · Sep 25, 2026 · comment in “Too AI; Didn't Read”

  • How many times have people written this exact same rant now? This is honestly getting more annoying than the AI generated content.

    matheusmoreira · Sep 25, 2026 · comment in “Too AI; Didn't Read”

  • yes, totally, this is a legitimate concern and i hate this too as a dev. we made the choice to build on top of vscode for the mvp so that the code navigation experience would be normal / seamless (and hopefully, devoid of slop).

sidharthkmenon · Sep 24, 2026 · comment in “Show HN: Whiteboard (YC W26) – An open-source IDE for thoughtful software design”

  • I legit hate reading AI slop speak. It's so annoying now.

nojvek · Sep 23, 2026 · comment in “Microsoft killed FoxPro in 2007. Anyway, here's FoxPro revived”

  • I continue to appreciate OpenAI's attempt at some honesty here, showing that they are capable enough and have skilled engineers to a point where they can recognize that slop is hated for good reason, and that there is a real issue.

    lionkor · Sep 23, 2026 · comment in “GPT-6 Sol and Luna”

  • It absolutely has generated a massive amount of slop, though. The problem is that you still need intent and while I think LLMs can help you free up and push through annoying boilerplate or tedious spots where known solutions exist, you still need to design these things and that’s something I’ve not seen an LLM be too helpful with.

Eufrat · Sep 22, 2026 · comment in “AI coding has made CI a bottleneck, so we reworked ours to keep up”

  • After going through that cycle 75 times a day, yes, I am a bit tired of vibe slop, even if the outcome X is good.

WhyohWhy001 · Sep 20, 2026 · comment in “A graphical desktop for the ZX Spectrum”

  • I hope this is /s because it’s very easy to get Claude to write sensibly. That’s why AI slop writing is so annoying because it’s so easy to avoid with any amount of effort at all.

    conception · Sep 17, 2026 · comment in “Xiaomi Mimo 2.6 live post-training dashboard”

  • I think, sadly, I'm becoming immune to slop because I (till now) believed I'm good at reading through LLM junk and that read quite normally to me. How annoying.

neom · Sep 12, 2026 · comment in “LG denies TV spying claims, says tracking and snooping concerns 'not true'”

  • Yeah, if we could document our actual thought process then we wouldn't struggle to train LLMs what good code actually looks like and we wouldn't have slop anymore.

dns_snek · Sep 12, 2026 · comment in “OpenAI agents carried out an undisclosed attack on RubyGems”

  • I can see how the situation is annoying there; I've had a similar frustration when doing manual code review for someone's obviously AI-slop PR only to have their bot auto-respond to my comments.

mikepurvis · Sep 11, 2026 · comment in “The Waymo effect: how AI is quietly making research less collaborative”

  • What I hate the most is people vomiting AI slop communicating with others.

orphea · Sep 11, 2026 · comment in “Resist "AI"”

  • I just can’t bring myself to read someone elses’ slop, regardless of performance. If all a developer hand writes is a truthy and readable markdown document, I really don’t care if the rest of the project is vibe coded, but I struggle to get interested in AI generated summaries and docs.

montyanne · Sep 11, 2026 · comment in “Nine coding harnesses vs. your laptop”

  • Then you get to "Preventing slop," which is probably the most important section in the post. Just pointing an LLM at the codebase doesn't work.
